Hurt in a car accident? What can be done afterwards to help you manage your pain? Find out from Mullen & Mullen Law Firm.
US healthcare spending hit about $3.65 trillion in 2018. This is greater than the GDP of all but 4 countries in the entire world!
The point is that managing pain is complex. And we certainly can’t create a complete guide for you.
However, we can give you some of the basics as they relate to car crashes.
Here’s what to do:
- Call 911 ASAP
You may or may not need an ambulance or medical attention immediately after a car accident. But you should at least get the police involved. They can create a report to record all the facts surrounding the situation, which you may need later if you opt to file a personal injury lawsuit.
If you have noticeable pain after your car accident, ask for an ambulance and medical professionals to come to the scene. If you don’t think you feel any pain, go and see your doctor ASAP anyway.
Your body produces adrenaline to cope with the stress of the motor vehicle collision. You may not feel any pain immediately afterwards, but it can show up days later.
A doctor can find the sources of pain or injury even when you can’t necessarily feel them. And having the record that you quickly sought medical attention gives you high credibility if you decide to file a lawsuit later on.
- Take Pictures
Take your smartphone out and take as many pictures of the accident and your injuries from as many angles as possible.
While this doesn’t help with your pain management now, it can help you with your legal claim later. And the financial damages you win later on can go to cover your medical bills so you can recover from any pain and injuries you suffer.
- Keep a Journal
A journal does a lot to prove your claim should you file one, and it also helps medical professionals understand the effects of your injuries and the progress of your recovery.
Your primary doctor may need to refer you to a specialist or pain management clinic to help you make the fastest recovery.
What if you’re not a good writer? Record your voice or take videos and describe in precise detail exactly how you’re feeling.
- Get a Car Accident Lawyer You Trust
The financial burden of a serious car accident, the pain it causes, the many different medical professionals you have to see, and lost time from work may terrify you…how will you pay for it all?
Well, you probably can’t.
Most personal injury law firms have relationships with medical professionals and institutions who will delay billing until you win your claim. That way, you can focus on your recovery rather than the legal and financial logistics which surround it.
Pain management following a car accident is never easy or simple. For now, you know the best you can do so you can focus on your recovery.
