Dialysis Products Granuflo & NaturaLyte Recalled After Harming Thousands

Granuflo and NaturaLyte recalled after harming thousands using the drugs. More than 900 died from these dialysis medications. Learn more in this post.
Fresenius Medical Care, the largest provider of kidney dialysis products and services, is the producer of both of these drugs. And unfortunately, this is a situation where they had awareness of the potential harm they could cause. But, they failed to share this information with both healthcare providers and patients.

What Evidence Shows Fresenius Had This Awareness?

An internal company memo that got leaked to the FDA on Nov. 4, 2011, discussed some startling facts:

More than 900 patients in Fresenius clinics had experienced heart attacks in the previous year
Both GranuFlo and NaturaLyte increase bicarbonate levels
Fresenius found patients with excessive levels of bicarbonate were 6 times more likely to experience heart attacks than those with normal levels

Pfizer’s Failure to Warn the Public about the Serious Side Effects of Lipitor

A Reuters story notes the number of women suing Pfizer for this reason has skyrocketed from 56 to 1,000 in under 2 months. The FDA issued a warning in 2012 that Lipitor and other similar prescription medications did in fact increase the risk of diabetes and memory loss.

This affects women in particular, the article continues, as they are even more likely than men to develop diabetes and gain fewer benefits from using Lipitor.

Pfizer publicly denied any liability and declared its intentions to fight these lawsuits.
